8 DOs in Building AI
The 8 DOs are related to Talent, Culture, Data Readiness and Governance and follow the following formula:
AI Effectiveness =Talent X Culture X Data Readiness X Governance
The DOs are about how to initiate, plan, design and implement AI systems.
1. Do plan AI strategy as an integral part of the business strategy and design the AI vision of the future
2. Be realistic about the limitations of AI technology maturity, data readiness, infrastructure needs and people culture & capabilities.
Do conduct technical due diligence alongside business and cultural due diligence to design and execute transformations and select desirable, feasible and valuable AI projects that are aligned with business objectives.
3. Do combine data scientists & machine learning talent with business talent to identify the most valuable and feasible AI projects.
Business Analysts and/or product managers/product owners are extremely important. Foster cross-functional collaboration and user centric design to leverage diverse expertise and offer superb customer experiences.
4. Do understand that AI development is an iterative process. Do plan for experimentation with a few pilots, multiple attempts and iterations to achieve success.
5. Do identify the right metrics, aligned with business KPIs and easy to measure.
6. Do build your AI team with the resources you have, including AI engineers who have learned through online courses. A mix of a few experienced AI developers with some talented and learning engineers will do. Focus on continuous learning and skill development within your team.
7. Do implement AI Governance which is a set of rules, processes, frameworks and tools to ensure ethical and responsible development of AI.
8. Do optimize ROI focusing on cost optimization, time to value, implementation speed, multipliers and value loops.
