How Disruptive Are the New Enterprise AI Enabled Business Models?
AI is not only about tools and agents.
Any enterprise needs to address the following without the list to be exhaustive:
- Data Readiness: quality and accessibility
- Availability of skillful AI talents
- Cross functional collaboration
- Provision of training and development of AI champions
- The right innovation culture (Psychological safety, Experimentation, Leadership support)
- AI strategy aligned with business goals
- System-wide workflows automation, not silo implementation
and last but not least
- Governance framework (Technical, Operational, Ethical and Compliance)
Additionally, you need to think in flows, not functions. Focus on how intelligence/data, materials, and value move through your ecosystem rather than rigid departmental boundaries.
AI enables new business models that will disrupt existing ones. A few of these business models are:
1. Products/Seats to Outcomes : How could we shift from selling products/seats to delivering guaranteed business outcomes for our customers?
2. Data Value Streams : What unique data do we generate that could become a new, monetizable value stream?
3. Autonomous Enterprise : If our operations were fully connected and autonomous, how would our strategy fundamentally change?
4. Ecosystem Intelligence: How could we collaborate across our value chain to create shared intelligence?
5. Clean State Design: If we rebuilt our business from scratch with AI and digital twins, what would it look like?
Example Subscription to Outcomes:
- Onboarding
FROM: Getting started videos and manual data entry
TO: Personalization, AI ingests your historical data and auto-configures a personalized workspace, dashboards, and workflows tailored to your specific role and goals.
- Daily Use
FROM: The user navigates complex menus to perform repetitive tasks.
TO: Agentic AI, you provide high-level intent (e.g. Reduce inventory with 10%). The AI agent executes the 40 clicks across the platform for you.
- Troubleshooting
FROM: You find a bug or error, open a ticket, and wait 24 hours.
TO: Anticipatory orchestration, the system detects a data mismatch or API lag and fixes it—or suggests a workaround—before you even log in.
- Value Realization
FROM: You pay $50/user/month, regardless of whether they use it or get results.
TO: Outcome-based model, you pay based on lead generation or revenue increases
Most companies that do not adapt to the new enterprise business models will be disrupted.
