Have You Really Implemented AI?

Have You Really Implemented AI?

Are you a CEO?
What are the industry facts?

- Many companies think that they have implemented AI because they have an IT department that is using ChatGPT/DeepSeek/other AI tools or many employees are using AI tools or they are implementing 1 or 2 small scale pilots.

- Many company employees are using AI tools without the company knowledge or partial knowledge of the IT department and without any AI governance framework in place they share daily confidential company information with the AI ecosystem.

- Global companies need to adopt different AI ecosystems e.g. China (Industry Customization, Open Source,
Cost Efficiency and Better Calibration) versus the USA (More Research, Higher Cost and More General Purpose) and different AI regulatory systems in China/Asia, EU and the USA

- More than 75% of the companies that have applied AI cannot scale beyond 1 or 2 pilots.

Why?

What is the status quo of your company?

The problem is not really technological because the huge numbers of available development platforms are becoming more and more sophisticated, but it has a lot of other challenging aspects that need to be addressed. There are people, leadership, pilot choices, AI ecosystems' and tools' choices, governance/regulatory, culture, innovation, value creation, scaling and ROI optimization challenges to be addressed. Here is a non-exhaustive list of questions for the sake of clarity:

1. Has your company an AI vision?

2. How are all company stakeholders embracing the AI strategy?

3. What is the impact of AI to your customers?

4. Do the AI pilots focus on business problems that create value?

5. Are you focusing on efficiency? What else do you need to take into account?

6. Have you solved your decentralized IT and data systems challenges?

7. How modular and scalable is your AI data infrastructure?

8. Do you have availability of AI talents for the right job?

9. Do you have the right governance framework, capability and resources to move beyond pilots?

10. Does your company have the right innovation culture? Can you implement the change?

11. Is the cross functional collaboration part of the company's DNA?

12. Are you using Open Source LLM? Which one ? China based, EU based, Swiss based with 1000 languages or USA based?

The above gives a reasonable list of what it takes to be able to start with AI design. Compared with the .com era the challenge is much bigger as the disruption is faster and the whole company business model is impacted.
